The leadership of the Reformed Church District of Királyhágómellék and the faculty of the Protestant Theological Institute gathered once again at Hegyközszentmiklós (Sânicolau de Munte). From 16 to 18 April 2026, the Church District hosted the faculty of the Theological Institute for the third time.
The theme of this now gradually established meeting was the structure of ministerial training. The shared reflection began from the question of what a twenty-first-century Reformed pastor needs in order to fulfil their ministry effectively. So that the voice of the younger generation might also be heard, the Királyhágómellék Reformed Church District conducted a survey among current students as well as among youger ministers who had graduated within the past three years. The summary of the results provided the faculty with feedback that helped identify both achievements and positive outcomes on the one hand, and challenges on the other. The ensuing discussion raised both longstanding and newly emerging questions: the balance between theory and practice in theological education, the definition of the internship year's role, and the structure of the degree programme, with particular attention to Sunday worship services. The conversation began to clarify in which areas greater attention is needed and how the institution and the Church District can collaborate in addressing them.
The purpose of the gathering was, however, not merely professional coordination but also the experience of spiritual fellowship. During the two days spent together, the District's leaders – Bishop Bogdán Szabolcs János, Chief Notary Dénes István Lukács, and General Director Rácz Ervin Lajos – led devotional services. The event concluded with a shared celebration of the Lord's Supper. In this too we experienced that fraternal community is the foundation of all consultation and shared endeavour. The KreSpa resort centre also provided participants with the opportunity to be refreshed not only spiritually but physically. The thermal swimming pool thus became the venue for friendly conversations and theological dialogues that extended well into the late evening.
The faculty of our Institute is grateful for the opportunity and the organisation, as the gathering conveys the message that the Church District values the work done at the Theological Institute and wishes to contribute to its quality in this manner as well, alongside its material support. This is further confirmed by the meeting planned for the following weekend, when the District leadership will host its own students from the Institute at the KreSpa centre. As Bishop Bogdán Szabolcs noted in his opening devotion: such occasions are instruments through which, faithful to the letter of Peter, we strengthen our calling and election (2 Peter 1:10).
